Where To Buy A Property In Mallorca

Location. Location. Location. We’ve all heard those three words and just how important they are in finding your dream home. Well the same applies to Mallorca – where you choose to look to buy property on the island can have a big influence on both the price you pay and the lifestyle you enjoy.

Obviously, with Mallorca being a relatively small island surrounded by warm turquoise seas, most people head for the coast.

Palma Bay View

The Bay of Palma area is an obvious choice. There are some fabulous coastal resorts here – resorts such as Illetas, Bendinat, Puerto Portals and Santa Ponsa immediately spring to mind.  Here you’ll find beautiful beaches, luxury yachting marinas, hidden coves…and all within easy reach of the capital Palma, with its fascinating history, chic art galleries, shops and restaurants.

Puerto Portals

The great thing about these areas is there is usually a property to be found to suit your budget. A small studio apartment near the beach may appeal. If your money stretches further you could choose a luxurious villa overlooking the sea. Move further up the west coast and you come to three delightful residential areas – Puerto Andratx, Deia and Soller.

Port d'Andratx Bay

Puerto Andratx is a beautiful upmarket bay with fabulous views overlooking the Med, but with property prices to match! Deia may appeal to arty people who prefer the traditional village lifestyle, and pretty Soller and its horseshoe-shaped bay are genuinely dreamlike.

The north coast of the island is also tremendously popular for buyers looking for their dream home in Mallorca. The gorgeous towns of Pollensa and Alcudia (along with their delightful ports) are the main areas to look out for here.

But Mallorca is more than just coastal resorts. The interior of the island is absolutely beautiful. It is here that those who love the quiet life and a sense of local community choose to look for a property.

Es Pla, the central area of Mallorca, is so achingly pretty! Ancient almond and olive groves, herds of goats, bursts of bougainvillea…the pace of life is gentle to say the least.

Deia Mallorca

Here you’ll find homes for sale cheaper than in the capital or some of the more upmarket coastal resorts – particularly if you are prepared to pay out a little on renovating a traditional property. If you are looking to demonstrate your DIY skills here, budgeting between €4,000 and €5,000 a sq. metre for construction would be a good idea.

As you can imagine, it’s most important that you have a knowledgeable real estate agent working for you when buying a home in Mallorca.
